Becoming a Christian is a wonderful thing, and at the centre is a wonderful new relationship with God, our heavenly Father. Just as in any relationship, communication between God and His people is vital. One way God speaks to us is through His Word, the Bible. As we read the Bible we are reading God’s words. Reading and studying it helps us keeping going and growing in the Christian life. In this book Julia Marsden takes us through the Bible letter of 1 Thessalonians, to help listen to God’s Word as we walk with Him. It is ideal for those just starting out in this relationship, or those much further down the line. Each day’s devotions include some questions for further private study and reflection, and they are ideal for personal or group devotions.

God speaks to us through his Word, and we need to hear his voice each day. But it can be a challenge to know where to begin! This great resource will help you get started.
Easy to use, focussed on the text and really well–applied. An excellent resource for those starting out on daily Bible reading or those needing to get back into the habit.
This is clear, thoughtful and encouraging. Ideal for anyone who has recently discovered Jesus Christ for themselves.
Julia Marsden’s Bible reading notes are designed primarily to help new Christians, reading the Bible for themselves for the first time. However, they are not exclusively useful for new Christians and could also be used by groups as well as individuals. They are detailed without being patronising and are appropriate for adults as well as older teenagers. The notes model a helpful way in which to read the Bible devotionally. Julia provides helpful, jargon–free explanations of contexts and Biblical concepts and doesn’t assume the reader has prior knowledge of the passages. The reader is encouraged to consider each passage and its implications for themselves in response to questions. These questions are helpful and thought–provoking and enable the reader to examine the passage carefully without skimming over details, whilst keeping the main points of the passage in focus. I have passed a couple of sets on to ladies in my church, confident that they will learn a lot from 1 Thessalonians, but also be more equipped to read through other parts of the Bible using this model.
Working in an inner-city context I have long been searching for clear, accessible material that helps folk grow in the faith. This is brilliantly written and I am sure will lead many to a deeper understanding of, and love for, Jesus Christ.
I just wanted to say how helpful the series of undated devotional titles are to myself and my wife. The series (containing 1 Thessalonians, Romans, Daniel, Mark and Acts) are perfect for morning devotions before going off to work and am sure many other people think the same. They are good in the way that they teach the person with a brief exposition of the passage. They don’t leave the person with a load of questions and Bible passages to look up as other daily devotionals do. This is ok for those with more time in the morning but for others – its good to be able to simply read the passage and then be taught what it means with a challenge/reflection question at the end. I hope 10ofthose Publishing continues to publish more titles/books of the bible (or even topics/themes) in this manageable format.
