Robert Scott
Robert Scott helps to oversee the international outreach at St Helen's Bishopsgate, London, which involves supporting the church's mission partners overseas as well as outreach cross-culturally in London. For the latter he has often shared a platform with Muslim speakers to discuss similarities and differences between Christianity and Islam. These Meetings for Better Understanding have taken place in churches, mosques, community centres and universities. His book Dear Abdullah came out of some of these talks. He also lectures in Islamic Studies at Oak Hill Theological College in North London.
Ten years ago, Robert and his family spent 18 months in NE Bangladesh learning the Sylheti language, in order to better understand the many people of Sylheti background in Tower Hamlets. Now back in Tower Hamlets, he and his family are partnering with other local churches to share the gospel with Sylheti people. Previously he worked for the World Health Organisation and the Charity Commission. He tries to support Liverpool FC ("they were the best when I was 7") and Southend United ("where I'm from"), and still just about manages to play in goal for a local veterans league. Robert is married to Beccy and they have three teenage children.
