Lucien's teasing of Dani leads to an accident with far-reaching consequences. Annette is intent on revenge and does all she can to make life a misery for Lucien. His only friend is the old man up the mountain who recognises his skill in carving wood and gives him new hope…Set in Switzerland, this story of Annett, Lucien and Dani has caught the imagination of countless children. Patricia St John's classic story of love and forgiveness is as fresh now as when it was first published in 1950.

Classic Book

My son loved this. He says, "My favorite part was when Lucien bravely went through the pass to get a doctor for Dani."

A Classic

I grew up listening to the audio drama of this book that would play around Christmas time in the 2000s, and I finally got around to reading the original! There are some differences in plot between the original book and the audio drama, so there were a few unexpected but fun differences. Still an enjoyable classic all these years later. If you haven't read it before, give it a go!

An oldie but so so good!

We read this with our 5 and 6 year old children and they talk about it as their favourite book. They were gripped by the story, loved the characters and couldn't wait to read the next chapter. With forgiveness and grace woven into the story, alongside the reality of a heart that struggles to let go, gospel conversations naturally flowed out of our reading. An absolute classic that we will definitely read again.
