John Bunyan

John Bunyan (born November 1628, Elstow, Bedfordshire, England—died August 31, 1688, London) was a celebrated English minister and preacher, author of The Pilgrim’s Progress (1678), the book that was the most characteristic expression of the Puritan religious outlook. His other works include doctrinal and controversial writings; a spiritual autobiography, Grace Abounding (1666); and the allegory The Holy War (1682).

Tyler Van Halteren

Tyler Van Halteren holds a M.Div from the Master's Seminary and has spent most of his life seeking to inspire children and youth to follow Christ and know God's Word. After seeing the impact 20 minute bedtime stories had on his son, Tyler decided to take to the challenge of changing the world through biblically faithful and beautifully illustrated books.

Canadian by birth, Tyler served as the Associate Pastor at Gorrie Bible Fellowship and then later as a professor at Phnom Penh Bible School in Cambodia till 2022. His growing young family now resides in southern Ontario. He founded Lithos Kids in 2020 and launched his first book, Little Pilgrim's Big Journey, on Kickstarter that year with 500% funding.

Incredibly rich allegory

What an incredible allegory, based on John Bunyan's lesser-known work The Holy War! This book was both deep and gripping for my 4-year-old. He didn’t want to stop reading and keeps begging to read it again and again. It’s full of suspense, gorgeous illustrations, and rich allegory with deep lessons, all pointing children to the truth of the Gospel. There are so many moments in the story where I was able to highlight how the narrative points to Jesus and our reality as humans—our sin, our need for a Savior, and how Jesus takes on God’s wrath, just as Emmanuel did for the creatures of Mansoul. At the end of each chapter, there’s a section that summarizes the allegory and explains it in detail. It includes application and questions to help children better understand the story. This is a phenomenal story! I love that Lithos kids took this classic and made it so accessible for children. I highly recommend this one!
